Nemesis of the Sea

Ivan Kert Peruda

The undulating swell, a call to arms of nature’s decree,
Now brimming with pollutants and toxic chlorine,
Its woe bemoaned by creatures with misery
A nemesis of the sea, rising up from its depths unseen.

The water is seething, the tide a cresting crescendo,
A tempest building, an ominous sky of cobalt blue.
The creatures of the deep, their lamentations a melancholy woe,
The ocean is roiling, absolution for our actions no longer due.

The ocean is ailing, a consequence of our heedless deeds,
It’s time to face the music and feel the retribution that we breed.
The ocean’s ire is real, it’s no longer what it used to be,
Our actions have caused this, so amends we must see.

The nemesis of the sea, a force to be reckoned with,
It’s coming for its requital and it won’t be finished.
We’ve fouled its waters, and now we must pay the price,
The ocean’s nemesis will make sure justice is served twice.
