Ivory
by Rain Chudori

if you should turn away from the sun and let talh trees float onto your open hands,
if you should watch wild leopards roam the earth and tend to their wounds,
if you should inquire: when will humankind be revealed?

dear friend, there will be no more light or water or revelations from humankind.
in the evenings, you gather ivory and mythology and bury them in your backyard.
but i promise you, someday, the seeds of trees will find their way to poetry
