The Sea

Rachel Cañete

The breath of the sea
is the receding & crashing tides that
is my breath!

The recession is the build up
of tension – inhale.
The crash, the great release
exhale.

Who has an eye,
a keen one to see,
that between each push & pull,
is a moment of peace?

After the crash or before the release,
everything is frozen still
within the tranquil sea –
this is my breath
& this breath is me.

This poem sprouted in the Philippines, in response to “Storm” by Ma. Isobel Ocao in the Philippines.
